Baseball Road Trip Planner - Cincinnati

Without a doubt, baseball is no stranger to Cincinnati. The sport has been played here since the 1860's, not long after Abner Doubleday invented the game. The Cincinnati Reds have been playing along the banks of the Ohio River for almost 40 years, and the locals have long had a great love affair with the team.
The city itself is easy to reach from just about anywhere in the country. Three major interstates connect here and there are direct flights from just about anywhere in the U.S. A hub for all sorts of industry, Cincinnati is a proud community with friendly people and some unique local cuisine you've just got to try.
Cincinnati's Ballpark
Situated directly on the banks of the Ohio River, Great American Ballpark is a wonderful back drop for the city. Directly beyond right field is the Kentucky shoreline, filled with all sorts of restaurants, bars, and entertainment options like the spectacular Newport   Aquarium. Many people choose to stay on the Kentucky side and take shuttles (bus or boat) across the bridge to the ballpark.
The ballpark is at the southern edge of downtown, easy walking distance from some great local gems. There's Arnold's Bar and Grill on 8th Street, billed as Cincinnati's oldest bar. It's been in operation since 1861 and offers great lunch specials and a secluded courtyard in back.
Also downtown, don't miss Graeter's ice Cream, a Cincinnati delicacy in the shadow of Fountain Square.
About 5 minutes up one of the city's many hills is the Mt. Adams neighborhood, known for its Greenwich Village feel and numerous nightspots. From most any vista on Mt. Adams, you'll enjoy a spectacular view of the city, northern Kentucky, and even southern Indiana.
Our favorite Mt. Adams destination is City View Tavern, tucked away on Oregon Street in the midst of residential buildings. The cheeseburgers are fantastic, as is the mettwurst, a mildly spicy German style sausage that is prevalent in and around the city. Oh, and then there's the view from the outdoor deck, and it's fabulous!
Cincinnati Cuisine
The city is justifiably proud of its reputation for chili. There are over 100 chili parlors in Cincinnati, and just as many spirited discussions as to which is best. Two major chains operate here, Gold Star and Skyline. We love them both, and also hold a special place in our heart (and stomach) for Camp Washington Chili, just north of downtown for well over 60 years.
There is also a rich brewing history here, and you'll find no shortage of restaurants and bars with interesting beer selections. A bit of trivia: the local beer is actually Samuel Adams Lager, brewed here by contract at one of the long time local breweries.
Summary
Whether it's baseball, food, or sightseeing that's atop your list, you'll find it all and then some in Cincinnati. We visit every couple of years and there's always something interesting and new to discover. It's a perfect destination for a baseball road trip!
